About Castleview Care Home

Located in a quiet corner of the historic market town of Alnwick in Northumberland, Castleview offers exceptional Dementia, Nursing and Residential care within a homely and stimulating environment.

The home is conveniently located just 0.3 miles outside of the town centre, away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to all the amenities that the area has to offer for day trips, including access shops, public transport and the world famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens, as well as Alnmouth and the Northumberland countryside.

Our spacious bedrooms provide a private escape, whilst our plentiful common areas are full of activities to keep Residents healthy, active and engaged, making Castleview feel like family.

Resident rooms

Our rooms are bright, spacious and modern, and come furnished with a single bed, a wardrobe, a bedside table, a large chest of drawers, an ocassional table and comfortable seating, as a standard.

Residents can bring their own furniture if preferred.

All our bedrooms benefit from ensuite toilet and sink facilities, as well as TV and phone points, and some have direct access to our courtyards.

Common areas

Our home is divided into Residential and Nursing units with each having its own inviting dining room areas and lounges. Our indoors facilities also include a specialist sensory lounge, a spacious conservatory and an in-house hair dressing salon.

Residents can enjoy the fresh air in our heated decking area, or from one of our 3 courtyards equiped with patio furniture.

Our external facilities also include a greenhouse and raised planting beds where green-fingered Residents can grow and keep their own plants.

Our home is equiped with a lift and is fully wheelchair accesible.

Activities

Our Activity Coordinators prepare a monthly schedule of events for Residents, which may include:

  • Adapted exercising classes

  • Arts therapy and crafts

  • Singing and dancing

  • Board and chance games

  • Animal therapy

  • Religious services

  • Parties, fairs and celebrations

  • Visits from local schools, volunteering groups and entertainers

  • Days out (weather permitting)

Castleview is a member of the Enabling Research in Care Homes (ENRICH) Network and Residents are occasionally invited to take part in research activities.

Food and drink

All our food is home cooked daily with fresh incredients by our in-house catering team.

We operate a 4-week rolling menu with Summer and Winter options, designed with input from nutritional experts to offer a healthy, nutritious diet.

Our chefs can cater for a wide range of dietary needs and preferences, including altered textured, cultural, fortified, vegan, vegetarian, gluten and diary free, diabetic, and low sodium diets.

In addition, our chefs bake daily fresh cakes, pastries, biscuits and pies for our Residents to enjoy whenever they want a treat.

Visitors

Relatives are welcome at anytime, altough we kindly ask that you aim to visit outside of protected meal times.

We are a pet friendly home and welcome well trained pet visitors with a little advanced notice.

  • Steve Dunn

    REGISTERED CARE HOME MANAGER

    Steve has over 40 years experience working in the private and local authority care sector. He has been with Ascot Care for 10 years, focusing on providing exceptional person-centred care to the residents of Castleview and their families.

    When not at work, Steve’s hobbies include Photography, woodwork and spending time with his two beautiful black Labrador retrievers.

  • Fiona Mellon

    DEPUTY MANAGER

    Fiona has a wealth of experience working in the care industry. She has worked at Castleview for 25 years and has been Deputy Manager since 2023.

    In her spare time, Fiona is a part-time Florist who enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren, being an active member of her local community and regularly organising events to fund raise for charities close to her heart.

Castleview location and directions

Driving:

  • From the A1, take the A1068 exit towards Alnwick/Alnmouth and continue for 0.2 miles.

  • At the roundabout, continue straight onto A1068 and continue for 0.6 miles.

  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Bondgate Without/B6346 and continue for 0.8 miles as B6346 turns left and becomes Market Street/B6341.

  • Turn right onto Lagny Street.

  • Turn left onto Windsor Gardens and continue until the end of the street.

  • Turn right onto Howling Lane.

  • Castleview will be on your left. The car park and main entrance can be accessed through Clive Gardens, by turning left just before the home.

By Bus:

Castleview Care Home is an 8-minute walk from the Alnwick Bus station, which offers bus links to Newcastle City Centre and other Northumberland destinations such as Alnmouth, Amble, Ashington, Bamburgh, Barresdale, Beadnell, Beal, Beldford, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Bulmer, Craster, Dunstan, Embleton, Felton, Haggerston, Howick, Longhoughton, Morpeth, Seahouses, Shilbottle, Tweedmouth, Warkworth, Warrenford, Widdrington and Wooler.
